World of Words

Filament is excited to offer a BRAND NEW CLASS this Fall: World of Words!
 
Inspired by coffeeshop open mic nights, story jams, and WORDS, we invite the poet in everyone to head to Filament on Thursdays this fall to play with writing words, saying words, words that tell stories, words that create characters, and words that are just fun.
 
In addition to playing with sounds and syllables in storytelling, this class will have a chance to create a real live Open Mic Party, that is part of Filaments Community Jam. Participants that are interested can bring their spoken word and storytelling skills to JAM in a Special World of Words Night at Filament on Saturday, November 14.
 
This class is FREE to participants. If you would like to make a donation at check out, all proceeds go towards keeping Filament’s programming financially accessible to all. 
 
Skills will build upon those developed in previous Filament camps and classes, but prior participation is not required.

WorldBuilders FALL 2026: New Alert!

Filament is excited to offer our Fall WorldBuilders Class that this year will play with the idea of BREAKING NEWS.
Inspired by Spring’s WorldBuilders and the news stories they crafted, we want to know what happens when we start building worlds, investigating them, and reporting on them.
In addition to creating new characters and stories, this season’s participants will learn about interviewing and investigating as they learn what stories we already have, what stories we want to make, and what finds us actually interesting.

Skills will build upon those developed in previous Filament camps and classes, but prior participation is not required.

About Filament's Education Programs:

Filament’s education programs focus on amplifying the creativity of the young participants. With Filament there are no scripts and no assigned roles–each participant creates their own dream role. Through drama and creative play, Filament’s experienced teaching artists support everyone in creating their own dialogue, characters, stories, costumes, and sometimes their own play.

Classes:

Multi-week Filament classes amplify the creativity of participants and grow skills in creative problem solving, teamwork, confident public speaking, analysis of text, design, community engagement, and more — all while creating something fun that makes them proud! Classes are held in Fall, Winter, and Spring.

PlayDates:

Filament’s PlayDates are single day 1-2 hour workshops with an emphasis in building skills in all areas of theater. PlayDates create a space for young people to connect with one another and share their new techniques. PlayDates are added on a rolling basis

About Escape from Reality:

What if you could escape the real world for an hour and experience a different reality? Join Filament for a look at the ingredients that make our favorite games so special. Create fantasy worlds, invent characters, develop storylines, and write rules as you design an imaginary board game or video game. Then, bring your game to life for a special performance–everyone will be invited to play along!

About Tales From the Forest:

Using classic fairy tales as inspiration, we will work together to create NEW tales filled with villains, members of royalty, and plenty of sidekick woodland creatures! This class will encourage students to use their bodies, voices, and imaginations to collaborate on wacky original stories that celebrate nature!
