When their town goes into a deep freeze and everyone is stuck inside, people start to lose their connection to the world. Words vanish for a librarian, food loses taste for a chef, and a mail carrier has no mail to deliver. Two friends work to find one-another again to rediscover their town, so that everyone they love will be able to gather again.

Synopsis: The story of a town full of cottages, and neighbours, and probably even someone you know.. When a snowstorm empties the streets, forcing everyone to stay inside, everything begins to turn distant and cold. Two brave adventurers want to help bring the town back together again, but first they will need to find one another. Gather is a show about closing distances and learning to really see one another, again, and for the first time.

Filament Theatre makes theatre for and with young people. Our production process welcomes young people into the room as essential collaborators, elevating young people as experts and positioning adults as allies. Our youth collaborators work alongside adult professionals to craft and explore the world of each play.
Since Spring 2021, teams of young people have worked together with adult artists to guide Gather from concept to rehearsal to performance. Centering youth voices and perspectives is key to every step of our creative process; not only does it give young people a crucial platform in a society that undervalues their input, but it makes Filament’s plays more relevant, truthful, and creative. Through workshops, summer camps, after school programs, and rehearsals, our youth collaborators have shared their pandemic experiences, their ideas of community, and their favorite ways to celebrate. They built cottages, designed new ways to party, and advised the design team. Youth Collaborators have offered advice and insight and have served as an important early audience for this new play.
