Kate Leslie

Kate Leslie (she, her, hers) is a playwright, director, and teaching artist based in Chicago. Kate is currently an MFA candidate as a member of the Playwright’s Lab at Hollins University.Her short play Ashes to Dust was a finalist for the Gary Garrison Award in 2019 and her play The Love Code won the National Partners of the American Theatre Playwriting Award in 2020. 

Kate is devoted to producing quality material for young audiences. In April of 2017, her play Mother Goose’s Garden premiered at Emerald City’s Little Theatre in Chicago. In the Spring of 2020, Kate began writing Zip, Bloom, Zoom, a show about pollinators in partnership with Filament Theatre. Kate has been teaching for over ten years and has worked with a number of Chicago organizations including: Northlight Theatre, American Blues Theatre, Urban Gateways, Bubbles Academy, Brain Surgeon Theatre, Chicago Children’s Theatre, and Emerald City Theatre.
