About Filament Trainings

Filament Theatre offers 2hr and 3hr professional development workshops for artists and activists, educators and students, parents/caregivers and children, and anyone interested in youth advocacy. Participants will expand their anti-oppressive toolkits through activities and discussions and leave the experience with practical steps for applying Filament’s methods to their own work and play. Workshops may be tailored to your needs and are appropriate for young people, adults, and multigenerational community groups of 5 – 35 people.

Pricing is dependent on curriculum, size of group, and length of workshop.

“I so value the Filament for its consistent ability to help kids/parents/adults use creativity to fuel progress.”

For Theatre Professionals:

From Theory to Practice to Play! Anti-Adultism at Filament Theatre

At Filament Theatre, our decisions impact the lives of young people, so we believe that young people have the right to help make those decisions.  Filament uses the term “anti-adultism” to identify the beliefs and anti-oppression practices that guide our decision-making.

Join Filament Theatre for workshops exploring the theory and practices that support our sense of play! Together, we’ll investigate the ways plays and playing together can build youth agency and combat prejudice against young people. Discover new ways to be a youth advocate and ally, deepen relationships, expand your anti-oppressive toolkit, and have fun playing together!

“It was all valuable - but creating and discussing the scenario skits (in mixed young people-adult groups) was so great! I also got a lot out of the circle discussion the adults had - it helped me think in new ways about the connections between adultism and other forms of oppression.”

For Families and Caregivers

Raising Empowered Kids: a multigenerational family workshop

What would society look like if we treated children as thoughtful, whole people?
What if we didn’t normalize a system of having ‘power over others’ in our earliest relationships? What if child/caregiver play focused on deepening our emotional connection? Our relationships and society would be richer, more creative and more equitable!

Discover new ways to be advocates and allies for your children or the children you care for. Receive practical tips for anti-adultist parenting. And have fun playing together!

“My child got a lot of the workshop too! He enjoyed it, and just the other day when he asked what his dad and I were talking about, we tried to brush him off by saying "grown up stuff." He looked at us and said, "Um, isn't that adultism?" Busted!”
